Sunland Park Neighbors and Crews Come Together After September Storms
When the storms passed, Sunland Park got to work. Residents filled sandbags side by side while crews cleared mud from neighborhood streets.
SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (Sept. 25, 2026) — The thunderstorms of September 22–23 left mud in the streets and water where it did not belong. Flooding is hard on every family it touches. What came next is what Sunland Park is known for: people showing up for one another.
They came in work boots and sneakers, some with their kids along. Neighbors stood around the same pile of sand, taking turns on the shovels and holding bags open for one another. There was hard work, and there was laughter, too. One bag at a time, they helped protect the homes and streets they share.
At the same time, the work continued on the roads. Crews from local contractor Nine Degrees Construction brought in heavy equipment to clear Memorial Pines Rd. and Tierra Madre St., scraping away the mud and sediment the floodwaters left behind. The City coordinated with the company on the work. On Mimbre Dr., an additional crew worked to clear the roadway.
Different streets, different crews, the same purpose: getting Sunland Park back on its feet.
