Javier Perea
Javier grew up here in Sunland Park. He graduated from Santa Teresa High School and earned his business degree at New Mexico State University, then came home. He was 24 when he became mayor in 2012, and he has served our community ever since.
Much of the work happens outside City Hall. Roads, buses, and emergency dispatch are all decided at regional tables shared with far larger cities, and Sunland Park needs someone in the room. His current term runs through 2027.

“With decades of military service, law enforcement experience, and community leadership guiding me, I am dedicated to serving with integrity, accountability, and a focus on results.”
Military service: Retired U.S. Army Senior Enlisted Advisor (20+ years) and G-6 Sergeant Major for the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, with multiple combat deployments worldwide.
Law enforcement: Texas Peace Officer with the El Paso Police Department assigned to the Crisis Intervention Team and Honor Guard Team.
Education: B.S. in Homeland Security & Emergency Management; A.A.S. in Administrative & Management Studies; National Society of Collegiate Scholars inductee.
Leadership: President of Villa Valencia HOA (350+ homes); former Planning & Zoning Commissioner; Board Member, Camino Real Regional Utility Authority.
