Some projects are best understood in person. That's why the City of Sunland Park recently welcomed representatives from the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a tour of infrastructure work happening across the community.

Visitors saw the projects up close and heard directly from the city staff and utility crews who manage them. The goal was simple: to share information openly and strengthen the working relationship between the city and the agencies that support its environmental and infrastructure efforts.

Stop 1

Carlos Aguirre Flood Projects

The tour began at the Carlos Aguirre Flood Projects, where the group looked at drainage improvements designed to help protect neighborhoods during heavy rain.

City staff explained how the work is progressing and what it means for residents.

Walkable Paths for Residents

The group also visited new walkable path improvements. These paths are meant to give families, seniors, and neighbors of all ages safer and more connected ways to get around Sunland Park.

Stop 3

Drainage Along the Border Wall

At the border wall, participants reviewed how stormwater moves through the area and discussed the drainage conditions on both sides.

The conversation centered on water flow and infrastructure, giving everyone a shared, firsthand view of the site.

Stop 4

CRRUA Manhole Improvements

The final stop was a Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) work site, where crews are making manhole improvements.

Team members walked the group through the work and answered questions about how the upgrades support reliable service.

Working Together

Throughout the day, conversations were practical and collaborative. Agency representatives asked questions, took notes, and spoke directly with the people carrying out the work.

The City of Sunland Park thanks NMED, the EPA, and CRRUA for their time and partnership. The city will continue sharing project updates with residents as work moves forward.
