It started at Mount Cristo Rey
Dinosaurs Really Did Walk Here
Long before Sunland Park had a name, dinosaurs crossed this valley. Their tracks are still pressed into the rock at the base of Mount Cristo Rey, the same mountain that sits on the city logo. Dino Dig Park will bring that story down off the mountain and into a place families can walk through.
“We actually have natural dinosaur tracks here in our border region.”
Adrianne Moody, co-founder, Moms on Board
Moms on Board is building the park in collaboration with the City of Sunland Park. It will include educational plaques and a dig area where kids can uncover replicas of fossils found right here, part of a broader effort to create more for children and families inside the city.
The commission
Paint the Paleo Path
The selected artist will design and install a durable trompe l'oeil mural on the bridge along the park's signature Paleo Path. The artwork should create the illusion of crossing a prehistoric landscape while inspiring discovery, adventure and unforgettable photos for visitors of all ages and all abilities.
So what is trompe l'oeil?
It is French for trick the eye. A flat surface is painted so convincingly that it looks like the ground just opened up under your feet. Tap the button and try it.
