Having no prior political experience, the young Mayor climbed a steep learning curve facing many challenges. At the time of his appointment, the City was plagued with bad publicity, a budget deficit, low employee morale and failing infrastructure. Through, patience, discipline and a strong commitment to improving his community, Mayor Perea successfully turned the City around to one that is now recognized as the safest and fastest growing cities in the State of New Mexico.  The City is also recognized as having one of the top financial audits in the State. “The City is at the cusp of great potential . Nestled between El Paso, Las Cruces, and Ciudad Juarez, it is the heart of the region. The future success of our City will take the collaboration of our elected officials and the people they represent, along with the businesses and a responsive, ethical government . I am committed to serving the people of Sunland Park!”
