POLICE OFFICER (Certified) -   Job Description

Starting Pay:  $15.00-$17.86/hr  DOE.

Patrols with in city boundaries by car or foot to prevent crime and maintain law and order; investigates citizen complaints and unusual conditions; make preliminary investigations; examine roadways, traffic controls, and roadway hazards; enforces traffic regulations; investigates accidents, interviews witnesses, prepares reports, directs traffic at special events and during emergencies, makes arrest, guards prisoners, administers first aid to sick and injured persons;, controls riots and disturbances and other civil disorders, answers inquiries from the public, assists motorists, pedestrians and other law enforcement agencies; maintains efficiency in the use of weapons and other police equipment; assists fellow officers in the performance of such work; community relations or planning sections; performs related duties as assigned and the discretion of the Chief of Police.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING

     1. High School or GED
     2. Law Enforcement Certification or if certified out of state must be certifiable thru NMLEA within the first year of hire.
        (TECOLE Certification considered with a two-year commitment if hired)
     3. Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.

COURT CLERK-     Job Description              
Starting Pay:  $10.00/hr
(1 PT Positions available)

Will assists public with questions and signing in for court hearing; answer phones and screen callers; enters citation into system; prepares court packets; prepares court docket; organizes and prepares case files prior to court hearings; creates payment plans according to court dispositions and judgments; attends court proceedings; filing Alphabetically; take payments as needed; close cases and perform other duties as assigned by Court Administrator or Municipal Judge.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Six (6) months experience in skilled office clerical tasks
  3. Knowledge of the court system and legal terminology
  4. Bilingual in English and Spanish
  5. Requires a typing rate of 45 words per minute
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  7. Ability to greet the general public with a helpful and positive attitude

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS: 

PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION (1 Volunteer Position Available) 

The City of Sunland Park is recruiting interested individuals to fill a vacant position on the board of the Planning & Zoning Commission. Take this opportunity to volunteer your time in civic service for the people of Sunland Park and help make a difference in the development of this city.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Municipal planning, working on comprehensive plans for responsible growth & community development, making recommendations to the City Council on all requests for zoning, annexations, subdivisions and related land-use issues.
  • P&Z Commissioners must be present no less than seventy-five percent (75%) of all regularly scheduled meetings, not including workshops.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Must be a legal resident of the City of Sunland Park.
  • Land-use experience preferred, but not required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

LODGER'S TAX ADVISORY BOARD 
(1 Volunteer Position Available) 

The City of Sunland Park is recruiting interested individuals to fill one position available for the Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board.

BACKGROUND.  The purpose of the law was to impose a tax which will be paid by persons using commercial lodging accommodations in the City of Sunland Park, NM.  The tax will provide revenues for the purpose of advertising, publicizing and promoting tourist-related facilities, attractions, transportation systems, etc.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • The Advisory Board shall advise the mayor and the governing body related to expenditure of funds generated by the Lodger’s Tax for advertising, publicizing, and promoting tourist-related attractions, facilities and events in the municipality.
  • The five (5) member Advisory board shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • The volunteer must be an owner or operator of and industry located within the municipality that primarily provides services or products to tourists.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
