Gloria Irigoyen has been a resident of Sunland Park since 1970. Through the years, she has been serving the community in various roles, such as a Commissioner in the city’s Planning and Zoning Board, the Sunland Park Sports Club which ran the Little League at the Elena Memorial Plaza, which once served as the City Baseball Park. Gloria was also a member of the Sunland Park Volunteer Fire Department. After three years of volunteering, she was hired to a paid firefighter position in October of 1988. She was appointed Captain and a year later assumed the position of Fire Chief. In March 1990, the El Paso Times ran a story citing she was the “First Paid Female Fire Chief in the State of New Mexico.” Due to a back injury, Gloria later accepted a transfer to the Municipal Court and served as the Court Administrator for 20 years. Within her tenure in the Municipal Court, she served on the Board of Directors for the New Mexico Municipal Court Clerks Association and was elected President of that Association in 2007. She also served as a Mentor for other court clerks in the state and served on the Education Committee. In 2007, she was recognized and awarded “Court Clerk of the Year” by the New Mexico Municipal League.
Her service to the community continued when she was elected as a member of the Gadsden Independent School Board in 2011. Gloria also services on the Board of Directors for La Clinica de la Familia, the local community healthcare facility.
Gloria obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2002 and a Master in Business Administration and Human Resources Management in 2004. In April 2010, Gloria left her employment with the City and worked as the Executive Administrative Assistant to Bishop Ricardo Ramirez at the Diocese of Las Cruces. From February 2011 to June 2012, she served as the City Clerk for the then newly incorporated City of Anthony, New Mexico.
On July 2012, she returned to the City after a two-year absence to fill the position of Human Resources Director.
